Decentralized Autonomous Organizations

DAO is an abbreviation of ‘Decentralised Autonomous Organization’. This is basically an organisation that runs automatically on itself without any human interventions. The work is automatically excecuted through Smart contracts.

Other Important Terms

Tokens

These are assets on the blockchain. Tokens can have a wider functionality than being a means of payment like a coin. However, you’ll hear people use these terms interchangeably.

Airdrop

An airdrop is a way to distribute coins. End users can generally get coins for free or in exchange for a small task, such as subscribing to a newsletter, sending a tweet or inviting other people via a personal affiliate link.

 

Liquidity Provider

Decentralized way to provide liquidity to any cryptocurrency in  decentralized exchanges. For eg - Anyone can deposit liquidity in uniswap and earn rewards. You don't need large amount of money to provide liquidity.

Collateral

This an asset used to secure a loan. In the traditional world of finance, one might put up their home as collateral to secure a cash loan. In DeFi, one puts up cryptocurrency tokens as collateral to borrow other tokens.

Oracle

These are feeds that provide necessary price data to DeFi protocols. Hackers do try to manipulate asset prices
